Marilee Joy Mayfield

Marilee Joy Mayfield

Why do children love Marilee? We think it’s because they think she’s one of them. It’s true she’s in a short, round adult body, but they look into her eyes and they just know she’s not really an adult…she might do something silly any moment.

Marilee started her career as a teacher, but she found she loved writing and editing educational books for children and young adults just as much as teaching so she tried to find a way to do both. For ten years she worked in educational publishing first as an assistant editor for middle school textbooks, then as an associate editor for high school textbooks and later as a developmental editor for college textbooks. Her interest in developmental editing and marketing eventually led to a position as a product manager.

Over the last several years, Marilee has written and managed the art programs for eleven books for children. Her books have been published and launched by Leaping Antelope Productions: The Golden Cricket: A Story of Luck and Prosperity; the Big Sister, Little Sister series; Crabby Lessons and Chef Etouffee (pronounced A-2-Fay) and the Great Gumbo Day, The Snowman’s Song: A Christmas Story and Melchior’s Gift, Little Green Men and Growing up Sisters.

Ms. Mayfields’ upcoming new title is Little Green Men. Pub date 3/2010 and promises to be one of her best so far!. This new title will include an audio CD. For ages 3 and up.

Recently, in the spring of 2008 The Snowman’s Song: A Christmas Story. won the prestigious Mom’s Choice Gold Award for Holiday books.
